Navigating Change: Proven Strategies for WMS Implementation Success
Implementing a new warehouse management system (WMS) is never as simple as flipping a switch. Beyond configuring technology, the true challenge lies in guiding people and processes through change. That was the focus of our latest webinar, “Navigating Change: Proven Strategies for WMS Implementation Success,” moderated by John Monarch of Charlie Pesti and featuring SnapFulfil Technical Project Managers Charzetta Bridgemon and Charles Thompson.
Both experts have led dozens of WMS rollouts across industries, and they agree on one thing: change management makes the difference between resistance and results. As Bridgemon explained, “The success of any system depends as much on the people as it does the processes and technology. Without buy-in, even the best tools can be underutilized or misused.” Thompson added that resistance is natural, especially among frontline staff whose daily routines change the most. That’s why clear, consistent communication and early involvement are critical to success.
The conversation highlighted several best practices for effective change management:
-
Engage warehouse staff early. Bring the “doers” into design and testing to build ownership and trust.
-
Identify change champions. Peer-to-peer influence often has more impact than top-down directives.
-
Prioritize communication. Transparency reduces fear of the unknown and reinforces the benefits of the new system.
-
Sustain change. The most successful projects empower teams to carry momentum forward long after go-live.
Ultimately, Bridgemon summed it up best: “There’s no feeling like being part of something as monumental as a WMS implementation. When people feel included, they’re invested in the success of the system and the company’s future.”
