Huhtamaki increases warehouse productivity with best-of-breed cloud WMS
The Challenge
Finnish packaging manufacturer Huhtamaki makes around 300 core SKUs, plus thousands of customized products, at its Gosport site in the UK. It relied on a basic inventory system and paper-based picking, which caused poor inventory accuracy and around £500,000 of lost stock.
A previous experience with an expensive, difficult on-premise WMS meant Huhtamaki knew exactly what it didn’t want.
The Solution
Huhtamaki chose SnapFulfil for its Tier 1 functionality, rapid implementation and no-capex model, which avoided heavy upfront investment. Huhtamaki skipped a full inventory count before go-live, so SnapFulfil took control of warehouse operations step by step over six months. The system now directs and records every stock movement.
The Impact
Productivity rose by around 30%, letting Huhtamaki reduce headcount by 20% and remove its night shift entirely. Stock losses fell by 99%, and the warehouse can now run at up to 98% of total capacity. After subscription costs, net savings were £84,000 in Year 1, and total net returns in Years 2 and 3 exceeded £240,000.
