SnapFulfil Glossary of Terms

The purpose of this document is to establish a shared understanding by clearly explaining terminology that may be unfamiliar, technical, or used in a specialized way.

Term

Definition

Alternate Product

An alternate code defining a SKU
e.g. EAN

APR

Adjustable Pallet Racking.

Audit

Stock Check, Perpetual Inventory or Cycle Count

Background Process

A server process running either once or semi-continuously.

Batch Code

The production batch code or lot number.

Bay

A physical area within a warehouse e.g. Aisle between racking

Block Stack

A floor area in a warehouse where pallets are stacked

Box

Container for one or more SKU’s e.g. Outer, Carton, Case

Box Quantity

Standard number of Items in the box.

Carrier

The parcel carrier or haulier that is responsible for delivering shipments or collecting receipts

Check Digit

The two character code that the RF operator must enter to ensure that they are at the correct expected Slot. Can be Alpha numeric.

Column

In racking, this is a vertical column of locations within a Bay (Aisle).

Composite

A StU that contains more than one SKU.

Consignment

A consignment may be inbound or outbound, and defines one or more receipts or shipments that are processed as one entity.

Cross Dock

A receipt that goes direct from Goods In to Goods Out.

Customer

The recipient of the shipment.

Cut Off Indicator

This denotes that the shipment must be despatched.
Used if there are shortages and the shipment is left to the last moment to attempt fulfilment.

Despatch Note

A document showing shipment despatch details.

Device

The RF Terminal.

Dock

The warehouse door that the receipt or shipment passes from or to the vehicle.   A dock is set up as a ‘Slot’.

Event

An occurrence, which may be either anticipated or unanticipated   e.g. the stage of a shipment changing.

FIFO

First In First Out – used for stock rotation.

FLT

Fork Lift Truck – used to lift and transport StU’s.

FLT Access

Denotes whether an FLT can access both sides in an aisle.

FLT Max Height

The maximum number of racking levels an FLT can reach.

GRN

A document showing details of goods received from a Purchase Order

Host

The system that interfaces to and from SnapFulfil.

Term

Inspection

An inspection task on receipts – after stock has arrived, but not yet putaway.

Interface Segment

The individual records within an interface transaction  e.g.  header, line

Interface Transaction

An interface transmitted from the host

Item

The SKU individual item within a box.

Kit

A SKU assembly containing one or more SKU components.

Lane

A Goods In or Goods Out lane used as a staging area subsequent or prior to unloading or loading. A lane is set up as a ‘Slot’.

Level

In racking, this is a level / row of locations

LIFO

Last In First Out – used for stock rotation

Load

A load consists of one or more customer shipments that are despatched into the same vehicle.

Load Sequence

The sequence the shipments must be loaded (usually Reverse Drop Sequence to facilitate unloading at the customer).

Location

Unique co-ordinate for a storage space or Slot

Manifest

A document showing summary information e.g. Shipment Manifest - a list of StU's dispatched on a shipment. Load Manifest - a list of shipments and Stu's dispatched on a load.

Marshalling

A staging area for StU’s prior to being transferred to the loading lane.

Operator

Picker or FLT driver being directed by task management via RF.
The operator is part of an Operator Team.

Operator Max Height

The maximum number of racking levels an operator can go.

Operator Mode

Denotes if the RF operator is in either
‘Auto Mode', whereby SnapFulfil issues the task based upon priorities. 'Manual Mode', whereby the RF operator decides what do do next.

Order Classification

An optional secondary method of categorizing shipments               e.g. Raw Materials, Finished Goods, Spares.

Order Type

All Receipts and shipments have a primary level of categorization.

Outbound Consignments

Method of grouping multiple orders for one customer into one shipment

Overdue

An indicator denoting if a receipt or shipment is overdue

i.e. If the expected receipt date/time or dispatch date/time has passed.

Owner

The stock owner – used in operations that manages stock for different clients.

P&D

Pickup & Drop slot. This is used when it is not possible to transport a StU to its destination due to physical constraints.

e.g. Narrow aisle racking.

Pick Group

Groups orders from different customers into one wave

Priority

Defines the priority of tasks or shipments.
The available values are: Critical, Urgent, Normal, Low.

Product Configuration

The standard pallet size for a SKU on a StT expressed as layers and layer quantity by unit.

Product Group

The group or groups that a SKU is part of, e.g. Spares may be defined as a Product Group 1, whilst Hose may be defined as a Product Group 2. A SKU can be part of up to two groups (though they are not hierarchical).

Putaway

The transport and storage of a StU from a receiving lane.

QA Code

Quality assurance code, can be used for assigning a status to stock at the point of receipt.

Quantity Allocated

The quantity of stock on a shipment that has been soft allocated.

Quantity Assigned

The quantity of stock on a shipment that has had pick tasks created for it.

Quantity Due In

The quantity of stock on a receipt that has not been received yet.

Reason

Reason codes and a description may be defined to be used when actioning a status change, e.g. Stock Check Adjustment

Replenishment

Filling a pick face from a bulk zone.

Replenishment Min/Max

The minimum quantity defines the trigger point to create a replenishment task to top up the pick face.
The maximum quantity defines the upper stock level permitted within a pick face.

Rule

Rules are configured in order to determine the way that the operation should work, e.g. Where a putaway should be made to or where picks should be made from.
Rules are created by Rule Type and processed by Rank.

Rule Action

The result actions may be:
Preference – e.g. Putaway in Zone A then Zone B. 
Constraint – e.g. Only putaway in Zone F.
Prohibition – e.g. Do not pick from Zone Z. 

Rule Rank

This is the sequence in which rules within a Rule Type are processed.All Prohibition and Constraint rules are processed first and then Preferences are processed according to their configured Rank. 

Rule Type

SnapFulfil has about 30 different rule types, e.g. Locate (putaway), Pick Item, Pick StU, Item Replenish, etc.

Section

A logical area within the warehouse.
Used mainly for determining where to putaway stock to.

Segment

An individual record within an interface file

Shelf

A fixed shelf, divided into a number of Slots. Used for holding small stock items.

Shipment

A sales order that requires the despatch of stock from the warehouse.

Shortage Code

This determines what action is to be taken should there be a stock shortage, e.g. “Pick When Due”, “Pick What You Can Now”, etc.

Side

The side of a Bay (Aisle) left or right.

Site

The physical entity within which may be one or more warehouses.

SKU

Stock Keeping Unit. The unique product code, other terms may be “Product”, “Item”, “Article”, “Part”, “Component” etc.

SKU Classification

This describes a nominal warehouse throughput value for a SKU (this is not calculated by SnapFulfil):

This describes the broad value of a product (SnapFulfil does not include the concept of cost): i.e.

Slot

The basic Location.

Slot Size

The code that represents the size of a Location

e.g. 01 = “Capacity of 1 Pallet only”.

Stage

Receipts and Shipments go through various stages during processing. e.g. Receipts will go through stages “Due In”, “Arrived”, “Inspecting”, “Received”.

Status

A status can be applied to stock, to shipments or to receipts.

e.g. Stock can be status 00 = Good or 01 = Held, etc.

StT

Storage Type,

e.g. EUR = Euro Pallet, GKN = GKN Pallet, TOT = Tote, etc.

StU

Storage Unit is the Unique ID of the StT can also be known as the pallet number or Serial Shipping Container Code.

Supplier

The supplier that a receipt has been delivered from.

Task

A job that has been created in order to move stock from one slot to another.

Task Service Time

The time taken from a task being activated to it be actioned.

Task Standard Time

The standard time that a task should be performed in.

Task Type

There are different task types each associated with a different job, e.g. Putaways, Replens, Item Picks, Audits, etc.

Unit

The SKU unit of measure,.

e.g. OU = Outers or EA = Eaches.

User

Anybody who has authorized access to SnapFulfil.

User Access

The access level determines what a User can view and what actions they can perform: e.g. Read Only/RF, Update - Operator, Update - System Administrator.

Vacancy Indicator

The occupancy status of a slot: e.g. Empty, Occupied, Full.

Zone

A physical area in the warehouse. Note that all Locations/Slots within a zone have the same storage handling.
